Home School Budget Update as of May 12
Over the last few weeks we have received great feedback regarding what our families value in support of their homeschooling journey. Overwhelmingly, our parents shared that they value their teacher and they want the maximum amount of funding and flexibility available to support their child’s education. In addition, we heard that our families wanted more control in how they manage their student budgets within a family budget.
As a result of this feedback and fine tuning of our budget, we are excited to share that we will be making the following enhancements to support our Home School families:
- TK-8 Home School students will receive $2,600
- 9-12 Home School students will receive $2,800
- A Family Budget (ability to move money between students with no limits)
- Ability to use your student budgets to cover costs for approved conferences you may want to attend (up to $350)
Previously announced enhancements that will remain the same:
- No Retention or Transfer fees for curriculum items families wish to retain over the summer after the school year ends
- Purchasing Matrix has been simplified to provide greater purchasing options
- Expansion of our enrichment/service vendor providers (est. of 1,200-1,300 vendors for next year) to include driver’s training and gym memberships
- Extension of our purchasing deadlines to later in the school year
We want to let you know we are doing our best to listen to the needs of our families. We also heard that our families wanted these funds with fewer strings attached, as a result, these new funding amounts will replace the Parent Educator Bonus, Student Assessment Bonus and free community college which was discussed earlier this spring.
Thank you for allowing us to serve your family.

Absolutely excited about this!
This is amazing & really a great extra budget for our students!! what a blessing!!
How will that work for community college classes? Will textbooks for dual enrollment classes still be reimbursed?
Hi Gabrielle,
Thank you for your question. We’ll get back to you soon with more information.
Hi Gabrielle,
Textbooks will be reimbursed for both Advanced Education and Dual Enrollment opportunities at the community college. To see the limits of the reimbursement please see this information in the Wire: https://wire.viedu.org/homeschoolcommunity-college-credit-reimbursement-policies/. Thank you.
Wow! Thank you so much!
Fabulous news!!
Can funds be used during the summer for vendors and also will unused funds roll over to the next year?
Hi Nyasha,
We’ll get back to you with more details soon. Thank you!
Hi Nyasha,
At this point, we do allow for curriculum ordering to occur over the summer (early ordering and summer ordering). For enrichment vendors although we allow voucher orders to be processed in early July, the services must begin on the first day of school. We will explore expanding voucher services next year. With regards to budget carryovers, we do not have the ability to carryover unused budgets from one fiscal year to another. Thank you!
Ok. Thanks.
Thank you Visions, for hearing & addressing our concerns!!
This is wonderful! Thank you! I wish we could used the unused funding during the summer or roll it over to the next school year. Would this be a possibility as well?
Hi Julia,
Thank you for your feedback! We’ll get back to you soon about rolling over unused funding.
Hi Julia,
At this time we do not have the ability to carryover unused budgets from one fiscal year to another. Thank you.
Wow this is amazing! We are so excited to be able to do more! The only other thing we’d like to be able to do with the funds is use them during the summer or carry extra over to the next school year. But this news is still great and unexpected!
Hi Alexandra,
Thank you for your feedback! At this time we do not have the ability to carryover unused budgets from one fiscal year to another.
That is fantastic Visions! Will we be able to use those funds for homeschool conventions during the summer months?
Hi Brady,
More information about using your budget funds for approved conferences will be shared soon. Thank you!
Oh my goodness! This is quite a nice surprise! Thank you, Visions, for both listening to the parents’ feedback and for reassessing and adjusting to further benefit your/our students’ needs.
Wow, thank you so much Visions! What a great charter school! 🙂 Glad to joined with my family!
Awesome!
Super awesome!
Hello! I’ve been a student for quite some time but I have regrettably never checked out this website frequently. Can you explain what this is? Is there a way to obtain a student budget or is it automatic? Is there some sort of paperwork that must be filled out? Also, if I read it correctly I saw that free services included community college, driving school and the gym? I’d assume I would need to discuss this with my teacher and/or counselor, but I thought I would just make sure here before I brought anything up.
Hi Leslie,
Thank you for your questions. This post and information about student budgets is for our home school students. I see you are enrolled in our independent study academy which is a little different. We encourage you to speak with your teacher and/or counselor about community college options. As for the driving school and gym those are offered through our home school only enrichment vendors. We also encourage you to check the Wire frequently for independent study related updates and events. Just note, if the headline and announcement include “home school” than the information is exclusive to that academy. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you!
awesome news!
