SkyQ Transitioning to Student Technology Services Department

Visions has decided not to renew our contract with SkyQ internet services beginning July 1, 2021. What this means is that for the next few months, we will transition these services internally to a new team which we will call “Student Technology Services (STS)” which will become part of our Technology Services Department.

Why

We’ve had a great partnership with SkyQ since 2004 and we are eternally grateful for their great work and support for our students and staff. As a result of our continued growth and experienced internal staff, we have decided to take on this opportunity to serve our families.

When

We have posted positions for the new staff needed to support the new Student Technology Services group and will hire qualified candidates in next month or so. Once we have the right staff in place, we will train the new staff and work alongside SkyQ to fulfill student support needs until we fully transition over beginning July 1, 2020.

What if I need help now?

In the meantime, SkyQ is still your primary go-to for student tech support and device deliveries. Please continue to contact them as normal for anything you need. If you have any questions or concerns during this time, please discuss with your manager.

If there is a lapse in service, please contact Uriel Gonzalez at ugonzalez@viedu.org OR call (916) 883-1825.

With this transition will we be issued new computers?

    Uriel Gonzalez says:

We will have an Acer c720 to Lenovo 100e chromebook swap-out event in June of this year. Please check back on here for additional information.

    Ludivina Russell says:

    Hi Uriel,

My son’s Visions issued Chromebook has some keys that stick. Since he has been successfully using our home desktop computer for the past several months I would like to return the Chromebook to Visions. I still have the box it was shipped in. Please let me know what our options are to get this taken care of. Thanks in advance for your help and support.

    Uriel Gonzalez says:

Hello, I believe we took care of this via email, but let me know if you still need anything from our team.

    Ludivina Russell says:

If the school will be issuing new computers, will that be an option?

    Uriel Gonzalez says:

We will have an Acer c720 to Lenovo 100e chromebook swap-out event in June of this year. Please check back on here for additional information.

    Mary Poole says:

Do we have to exchange our devices in person, or will we have the option to return by mail?

    Uriel Gonzalez says:

Hello Mary, here is our guidelines on exchanges/returns for devices:
    https://wire.viedu.org/ehandbook/technology-returns-and-exchanges/

If the device is defective or damaged, we can send a return label and box to facilitate an exchange by mail. Please contact SkyQ for additional information.

For in-person returns, we plan on having an Acer c720 to Lenovo 100e chromebook swap-out event in June of this year. Please check back on here for additional information. During this event, we plan to go out to cities such as Vallejo, Concord, South Sacramento, Lodi and/or Stockton. We don’t know what cities just yet, but it will be some combination of these to facilitate exchanges and returns.

    Melissa Bechtold says:

Will there be another option besides a Chromebook?

    Uriel Gonzalez says:

Hi Melissa, at this exchange event, we are only planning on exchanging Acer c720 Chromebooks for Lenovo 100e Chromebooks. We don’t have any other exchange options planned at this time.

    Melissa Bechtold says:

We use a lot of disks in our laptops, so will that be an option with these new chromebooks?

    Uriel Gonzalez says:

Hi again, our Chromebooks do not have any CD/DVD Drives in them, so they do not support disks. If you need a device that supports CD/DVD, please consult with your teacher and/or principal to discuss your specific educational needs for solutions.
